Cape Maclear

After an all day session at a beer festival on the Saturday, four of us set off on the Sunday morning, my birthday, on a road trip to Cape Maclear, a long stretch of beach on the southern shore of Lake Malawi. It is part of Lake Malawi National Park and boasts some of the clearest waters of the lake and great visibility of the cichlids, something Lake Malawi is famous for.

I’d heard fantastic things about the sunsets at Lake Malawi, and they didn’t disappoint. Between 5pm and 6pm each day we sat on the beach and took in the sky as it changed colour before our eyes. It was an eventful couple of days – swimming, snorkelling, banana boat and even diving in the calm waters of the lake. But most of all it was nice just to get out of the city. A stunning place and I was in great company throughout. It’s safe to say I’ll be returning.
